Michael B. Foggs, MD, graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and cellular ultrastructure. Four years later, he graduated from Harvard Medical School as a member of the Aesculapian Medical Society. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. He then became a post-doctoral Fellow in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Hospitals as a National Institutes of Health Scholar. After completing his post-doctoral fellowship in Allergy and Immunology, he became Associate Director of Allergy and Immunology at Hahnemann University Medical Center and School of Medicine.
Dr. Foggs is currently the Chief of Allergy and Immunology for Advocate Health Care, the third largest integrated health-care network in the country. He is a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI), and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Allergy and Immunology Section of the National Medical Association (NMA). He has recently been appointed to the ACAAI's Foundation Committee, as well as to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute/National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NHLBI/NAEPP) Expert Panel 3, which will be developing a new set of asthma management guidelines. In addition, he serves on both the Affordable Access and Managed Care of the ACAAI and the Committee for the Underserved of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI), as well as on the 2003 Consensus Panel on Asthma in the African American Community.
Dr. Foggs has worked in all facets of health care, including academic medicine, private practice, and managed care. He is a consultant to major corporations in the fields of health-care delivery, health-care education, and access to health care-all topics about which he has published articles. He lectures on asthma and allergic disorders throughout the country, and has provided commentary on health topics for cable television and ABC Radio. He has also worked with the Chicago Public School system, helping to implement optimal asthma care for its students. In 2003, he received the Floyd Malveaux Award for Scholarship from the NMA and was selected as one of "America's Top Physicians" by the Consumer Research Council of America.
