James E. Gern, MD, is currently Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison. He received his medical degree from the University of Southern Florida in Tampa and completed an internship at the State University of New York in Syracuse. Dr. Gern completed a Pediatric Residency at the Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts; served as a Navy Pediatrician; and completed an Allergy/Immunology Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Gern is a member of the American Thoracic Society and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI). His clinical interests are childhood asthma and immune deficiency, and he conducts research on the role of viral infections in asthma. Dr. Gern holds board certifications in allergy/immunology and pediatrics.
