Robert Guthrie, MD, is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, the Department of Pharmacology, and the Department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University. He is also Associate Director of Clinical Pharmacology at that institution. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and he completed residencies at the University of Maryland Hospital, Union Memorial Hospital, and York Hospital. He is board certified in family practice and internal medicine.
Dr. Guthrie currently conducts a clinical pharmacology research program that specializes in new pharmaceutical products designed for the US primary care market, especially for the treatment of hypertension and cholesterol disorders.
Dr. Guthrie is Co-chair of the Vascular Medicine Primary Care Advisory Panel, a member of the Vascular Medicine Advisory Panel, and a member of the APOLLO National Cholesterol Education Initiative Steering Committee. In addition to authoring or co-authoring numerous journal articles and book chapters, Dr. Guthrie is also on the editorial review board of the Journal of Clinical Hypertension and a reviewer for Chest. He lectures regularly on issues in hypertension, treatment of lipid disorders, and antiplatelet therapy to prevent cardiac events.
