John W. Bloom, MD, is Associate Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology in the Arizona Respiratory Center at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.
Dr. Bloom is a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician and a biomedical researcher whose research is focused on understanding the anti-inflammatory effect of glucocorticoids in treating asthma. A major aim of Dr. Bloomıs research is in the area of the molecular mechanisms of glucocorticoid action in the lung, including the mechanism of interaction of glucocorticoid receptors with other transcriptional factors to inhibit expression of inflammatory cytokine genes. He also investigates the mechanisms of eosinophil apoptosis and the functional genomics of genes involved in allergy and asthma.
