William James Calhoun, MD, is currently Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He is also Director, Allergy/Clinical Immunology Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Calhoun received his undergraduate training at the University of Delaware, graduating with high honors in 1975. He received his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1979. In 1985 he received a Pulmonary Medicine Fellowship from the University of Vermont in Burlington. He later completed an Allergy/Immunology Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Dr. Calhoun is a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians.

An active participant in research, Dr. Calhoun was a member of the National Institutes of Health Emphasis Panel on Ancillary Studies in Heart, Lung & Blood Disease (2001-2003). A member of the American Thoracic Society\'s Annual Meeting Program Committee, he is also a member of the Research Fellowship Review Committee of the American Lung Association. Dr. Calhoun is a Scientific Reviewer for such journals as Journal of Laboratory and Clinical Medicine, Chest, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and Lung.

Dr. Calhoun was awarded the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute Clinical Investigator Award in 1992, and was named Career Investigator by the American Lung Association in 1998.
