James F. Donohue, MD, earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Peter's College in New Jersey, and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was granted a Fellowship in the Division of Pulmonary Diseases at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Donohue is currently a Professor and the Chief, Division of Pulmonary Critical Care at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians.

Having published over 60 articles, reviews, books, and book chapters, Dr. Donohue is also an editor and editorial advisory board member for several journals and publications. Areas of research interest for Dr. Donohue include spirometric patterns, management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and treatment of asthma.
